Location : Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is situated on the flood plains of the Sapta-Koshi River in Eastern Nepal.
 
Features: The reserve is a wetland of international significance. In 1987, it was declared a Ramsar site. It is home to more than 280 bird species including 20 duck species, 2 species of ibises, many storks, egrets and herons. The endangered swamp partridge and Bengal florican are found here. The Koshi Barge is an extremely important resting-place for migratory birds.
The best bird in Koshi : Swamp Francolin, Black-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Comb Duck, Falcated Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Cotton Pigmy Goose, Baer's Pochard, Bailon's Crake, Ruddy Crake, Greater Painted Snipe, Pheasant-tailed jacana, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Indian Courser, Black-bellied Tern, Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Bristle Grassbird, Striated Grassbird etc.
The last surviving population of wild buffalo or arna is found here. The reserve is also home to many types of mammals such as hog deer, spotted deer, wild boar and blue bull. The endangered Gharial crocodile and Gangetic dolphin have been recorded in the Koshi River.
The vegetation mainly includes tall khar-pater grasslands with a few patches of khair-sissoo scrub forest and deciduous mixed riverine forest.
During the monsoon, the reserve is flooded with depths ranging from 10 to 300 cm. From season to season the Sapta-Koshi River changes its course.
Accommodation : Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp is the very first luxury camp established in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in the year 1993. Established solely for the purpose of serving to the interests of bird watchers of all around the world, the camp is staffed with bird specialists renowned in the country. Koshi Tappu Wildlife camp is a heaven for all the nature lovers seeking solace and a quiet time for themselves engulfed with nature's serenity The Camp is staffed with local naturalists and bird specialists. It consists of 12 large deluxe safari tents with easy twin beds and simple modern toilet amenity including hot and cold shower facilities. The restaurant with fully stocked bar is located centrally on the thatched house, 'Golghar which serves Nepali and International cuisine from our experienced kitchen
Activities (Morning / Evening Jungle Walk) : The jungle along the belts of the Koshi River, part of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is known for its richness in birds and other animal species. The river lagoons and wetlands provides excellent opportunity to sight bird life, deer and herds of water buffaloes.
Soft Wildlife Rafting : Taking a raft down the Koshi River is another alternative for exploring the reserve. Here, you can see the water birds or animals off to their daily chores with wonderful sights like Kingfishers diving down the river looking for food, the marsh muggers or the ghariyal crocodiles sun bathing but ofcourse out of reach. You might be lucky enough to spot the rare wild buffaloes. Down the end, at the barrage Gangetic river dolphins could be your best view of the day. Village walk
